So what defines a ‘Gratitudist’?
Take a glass of water…
Optimist – Half full?
Pessimist – Half empty?
Realist – Just water?
Gratitudist – Sees the glass of water for what it is… grateful there is something in it to begin with.
The gratitudist sees:
- Opportunity, rather than risk or elation.
- A challenge, rather than fear or ease.
- Room for improvement, rather than limitations.
- Constructive criticism, rather than judgement or falling on deaf ears.
A person who has the ability to feel grateful for what they have in light of tough times, life’s challenges, or physical and mental obstacles; without the erratic naivety of an optimist that everything will work our fine.
A pessimist sees a storm; an optimist thinks the weather will change; a gratitudist lifts the sails. If there is a need for leadership, it is often a gratitudist that will step up and captain the ship.
A gratitudist understands the importance of ‘thank-you’… offering genuine appreciation, empathy towards others and resilience when needed. They value what is in front of them, whether it be materialist; an unexpected emotion, or a warm fuzzy feeling that cannot be explained.
One thing a gratitudist knows to be true, is that the feeling is addictive — the release of serotonin you get from showing gratitude delivers a natural high, best experienced with others.
If this resonates with you, I’m pretty sure you are a Gratitudist too… it takes one to know one.
